For the third consecutive year, Terratinta Group is confirmed as Carbon Neutral.
On 16 June 2022, Carbon Credits Consulting Srl collected 30 Verified Carbon Standard VCUs (Verified Carbon Units) on behalf of Terratinta Group from Verra, a non-profit organisation that manages a registry of carbon credits.
In the first two years, Terratinta Group contributed to the Fazenda Nascente do Luar reforestation project. In addition to the climatic benefits, the activity has brought countless environmental (in particular the protection of animal and plant species) and social benefits, involving the communities that live in and depend on these forests.
Today, Terratinta Group chooses to focus on a new Project, that of the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in Indonesia. The project follows this basic principle: if we are serious about forest conservation, we must provide education, employment and viable alternative land uses for non-renewable resources.
This is the first REDD+ project (Reducing Emission from Deforestation and forest Degradation, i.e. a mechanism to incentivise actions to reduce deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries), a project audited for SDG compliance according to the SD Vista Standard, which has achieved the highest possible rating of contribution to all 17 UN SDGs.
Rimba Raya provides alternative income streams through capacity building, investments in microfinance, the managing of a biodiversity reserve for animals and plants, children’s schooling and education, women empowerment programs that provide necessities and access to a conservation model that does not put the developing world’s need for economic growth at odds with our collective desire to protect a fragile ecosystem.
Let’s keep working to improve the environment!
